Renewable energy

Why Netherlands?

Wind Energy

Dutch central government is committed to ensuring that 14% of all energy used in the Netherlands is sustainable by 2020 and 16% by 2023. Wind energy is a key source of renewable energy for the Netherlands and government has designated sites for offshore wind farms.

Why Netherlands?

In 2015, offshore wind turbines generated 357 megawatts (MW) of electricity. At least 4,450 megawatts will be needed by 2023 (source: Energy Agreement for Sustainable Growth). By 2023, offshore wind turbines will supply electricity to about 5 million households. This means that offshore wind farms will generate about 3.1% of the total energy used in the Netherlands.
